Story Behind the Collaboration
You guys know I love to paint with coffee. And you know I love the Kansas City Chiefs. Annnnnnnnd, you know I love to give away art, so pour yourself a cuppa coffee and let me tell you how this whole caffeinated giveaway came about …
As a lifelong Chiefs fan, I was thrilled when we beat the Tennessee Titans for the AFC Championship in Chiefs Kingdom. The Chiefs had a relatively slow start to the game, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense found their momentum and crushed the second half!
After the win, I couldn’t wait to brew up some fresh coffee and get to the studio to create some new art! A portrait of Mahomes was my first thought when I sat down at the easel. Sometimes it takes longer to decide what to paint, but I had just been “wowed” (again) by his talent and leadership on the field, so I began to paint Patrick. He has kind and thoughtful eyes, so I wanted to capture the “look” in the painting. I had the most fun with his amazing hair!
I posted the Mahomes portrait on several social media platforms, including the Chiefs Chicks Facebook page (which I highly recommend following if you are Chiefs fan), with the request for recommendations for places I might be able to donate this art. Lots of helpful comments led me to a few KCMO coffee shops, local charities and the 15 and The Mahomies foundation. I got a great response from The Roasterie in Kansas City – it’s a wonderful set of 9 coffee shops in the Kansas City area. (Click the link to learn more about them. https://theroasterie.com/cafes/)
The Roasterie had created a KC Kingdom blend of coffee in celebration of the Chiefs victory and they offered to include coffee with the giveaway. We also decided that it would be fun to have several smaller pieces of CoffeeART available for the giveaway promotion so that the Mahomes portrait would be the Grand Prize Giveaway and so I painted a few more items and shipped them off to The Roasterie!
I am excited to see how the promotion goes and even more excited to watch the Chiefs WIN the Super Bowl ;o)))))) And who knows, if I am lucky, The Roasterie may carry CoffeeART by Amy in 2020 … which means more visits for me to Kansas City ;o)
